City promises FROM MARQUETTE MI

MARQUETTE MI

Derrell Syria

Soo line railroad: used to be my playground then the line became obsolete and the area became crappy. It was an improvement when they put the bike path down there and then came the road and the City promises to make the area citizen friendly. Yah right! First the overlook's height was cut back because of the obstruction a view and then came the condos and the city promises of the building not being too high to obstruct the home owners view. You know how that tuned out. They used the high water table as an excuse to increase the height of the buildings going up. They knew of the water table the whole time. A citizens forum was held at the Lakeview arena donors room to get some ideas as to what could be done with Flounders landing. A lot of good ideas, yet nothing came of it. Then came the Hampton hotel and some adding on to the first built condo complex and low and behold another 8 story condo was built next to the Hampton Inn. Hey! what happened to the view? Now another hotel is being built kiddy corner from the Beefaroo and my guess is that there is more proposed development in the works to all other vacant property. I'm still waiting for something to be proposed that will benefit the citizens. I doubt that will happen. Our city representatives seem to be looking at future development as a future tax base incentive. Somebody is making some big bucks off of these investments. It is fortunate that the citizens have the bike path but I am afraid, that it is all that we will get. Talk about being mislead or should I say being lied to. I'm sure that many of the area home owners would attest to that. Mark my words. Soon there will be a privacy fence built next to the round about so the passers by cannot look at the condo's back side (I've seen them in the cities) The question is: What is to become to all of the vacant lots at Flounders Landing. Will anything ever be built there that the citizens or even the tourists can utilize, or will it all be for the benefit of the investors.
