The virus doesn't worry me, the media scares me,
I have copied this from another post. A women named Charity wrote it. Here goes.......
The virus doesn't worry me, the media scares me, the breakdown of society scares me, people over-running health systems scares me... The media and parts of our government are driving the paranoia and fueling the fire of people who are already on edge. I mean you got people panicking over toilet paper for heavens sake! It's not going to be the virus that will be the worst thing out of this, it is the freaked out citizens who are buying up 30 packs of toilet paper, 20 cases of water, fist fighting in the middle of the stores. Society is a fragile thing and will snap with just a small bend. Is this virus dangerous? Yes to a certain group of people. Can it kill you? Yes, with a compromised immune system or if you are over 60. People younger than 10 seem to only be carriers as no reported cases in China or anywhere else. People 60 - 80 account for more than 80% of the total deaths nationwide. This is why Italy has such a huge death toll as 60% of their population is older than 40 and 23% is over 65. So naturally, they will have a high death toll ( older and immune-compromised). This virus hit China back in October and life went on as usual. I get the fact they had not named it yet and assumed it was the flu, but why wouldn't they? It presents with similar symptoms and can kill the same group of society. In the same time frame, the flue has infected 45 MILLION Americans since October (the same time frame this hit China) and has killed 46,000 people according to estimates from the CDC. That should be more alarming to you than the Coronavirus since there is a vaccine for the flu. Currently, according to the WHO, the mortality rate worldwide is 3.4%. Last week the New England Journal of Medicine published a study among a group of 1099 patients and found a death rate of only 1.4 percent among the group, suggesting that the rate could be lower than those reported by the WHO and the
Chinese officials. We do not shut our world down for the flu and I get it, this is not the flu so to speak but it is a flu-like virus that spreads in similar ways and is just as dangerous to the above-mentioned people as the Coronavirus is. Does this virus suck? Well, I've not had it, but I guarantee it does as so does the flu (which I've had a few times). Can this virus kill people? Yes, and the flu can kill the same people. I'm in no way saying don't be cautious. I'm not saying don't be prepared. What I'm saying is don't lose your humanity, don't lose your civility. If you are buying 30 rolls of toilet paper, there may be an elderly person that just needs one 4 pack to get her by and you decided to hoard it for no reason or need what so ever. Don't buy 10 cases of water, because that single mom who uses it to make her baby formula or that older gentleman needs just one case for himself and now because of your paranoia there is none left. Be smart people, do your research. Don't rely solely on the major news networks or Facebook as it's beneficial to scare you because you will click on their articles, you'll watch their broadcast and you'll buy their papers. This health scare is beneficial to them, it makes them $$ and that should piss you off that they are using and feeding off your fear because it helps their bottom dollar. Do your research with the major players in this illness (WHO, CDC, etc) don't be a sheep, don't believe everything you read on the internet and please, consider the more helpless members of this society when you are clearing store shelves. They may not have that opportunity and really only need just that one item.
Okay, I'm done.. Rant over!
